POUT IPHONE COSMETICS CASE

POUT Case is the world’s first iPhone make up case. Already hailed as the
next must-have beauty item by the likes of Cosmopolitan magazine, the case
accommodates three customisable cosmetics pallets in a slim-line form factor,
enabling ‘on the go application’.


Outwardly you could be fooled into thinking that this was a straightforward product
development but it proved to be surprisingly challenging. Extensive materials research,
prototyping and testing ensured that the make-up tray slides in an out both smoothly
and reliably. We also designed a simple and clever way to allow users to swap out
pallets without accidentally sticking a finger in the make-up!

Many of us can use a little help getting up in the morning or getting to sleep
at night. Lumie, are pioneers in light therapy and once again invited WMP to design
its next Bodyclock.


The Luxe 700 project presented several challenges. These included how
best to configure all of the internal components in a compact yet stable footprint,
because bedside table space is often limited.
We also wanted it to have a blown glass globe, to not only enhance the look and
feel but to also improve acoustics whilst still allowing natural convection to occur.

We are all pretty pleased with how it looks and sounds!

WMP was challenged to make the daily wet shave a more pleasurable experience.

The X1 razor handle was inspired by automotive design cues and has a cast metal chassis
with a tactile rubber underside grip and a customisable panel inset into its top surface.
Every touchpoint of the user experience was considered to achieve the desired goals of
being premium and highly aspirational. We carried out a thorough programme of
prototyping and testing to help identify an optimum weight along with refining comfort
and balance in the hand.
The X1 handle is the centrepiece of an ever-growing Bolin Webb eco-system and WMP has
also designed a number of accessories including a pebble shaped stand with high power
neodymium magnets concealed beneath its cast metal top and silicone protective travel
case. WMP was also responsible for sourcing the manufacturer in China and for the
shipping of all 3 products. The X1 razor received an IF Design Award in 2014.

Smartphones allow us to do some amazing and useful things but
its great when they can perform really important tasks.


Y-Cam has been developing security products for many years and they
called upon WMP to help them create a new product identity language
that could drive their future NPD plans. EVO was designed to be non-technical
and easy to set-up and use straight out of the box. It had to be minimalistic,
contemporary and capable of being located on almost any surface in the home
or at the office.

HEADPHONE & BT SPEAKER RANGE

Ferrari is of course best known as an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer
and Formula 1 team. WMP’s challenge was to extend its brand to create
two distinct ranges of premium audio products.


The Scuderia collection was inspired by technological innovations in F1, whilst
Ferrari’s GT road cars influenced the Cavallino range. The design team identified
attributes such as its rich heritage, craftsmanship and attention to detail and sought
ways to apply them to a variety of headphones and speakers.

The products were developed in collaboration with a leading acoustics laboratory
in California and the product ranges won a “Best in Show” award at CES in Las Vegas.

WMP also provided total support in the design of the point of sale and product packaging.

Lumie developed the worlds first wake-up light nearly 25 years ago.
Since then they have established themselves as both leaders and
innovators in this market.


Project Iris is another pioneering development and for the first time
combines a wake-up functionality with aromatherapy.

WMP provided ideation and concept design through to full mechanical
engineering, prototyping and testing. WMP was also responsible for the
user interaction design including defining the behavior of the various
controls and the iconography on the LCD.

An accelerated development programme delivered Iris in only 11 months
and ahead of Lumie’s original target deadline.

The product was launched exclusively in John Lewis in Q4 2014.

With a strong track record in designing audio devices, WMP’s team
was invited to facilitate an ideation workshop for an established
British audio brand.


The workshop explored how product design and technology aligned to
the brands unparalleled reputation could help them to increase market
share.

The workshop also explored how marketing and communications could
take advantage of digital/social media and ideas around better coordination
of distributor and consumer campaigns in order to boost sales.

WMP also produced a vision for a future product portfolio inspired by some
of the insights from the ideation workshop.

Hisense is a Chinese technology corporation looking to develop its brand
beyond domestic markets.


WMP’s design team has considerable experience in telecoms design for many
leading global technology brands andwas selected to design a new smartphone
targeted at western consumers.

Historically, Hisense has produced a new mobile phone for its domestic market
every 3-4 weeks so we helped its management team undertake a cultural shift
towards a more considered approach to innovation.

The scope of work included creating several concept options for both the handset
design and also the UI. Research, role play and experience mapping delivered key
insights and provided the design team with a detailed understanding of the target
users lifestyles and inspired the final design directions.

How do you bring an old favourite back to life in a way that is appropriate
to advancements in technology and still be relevant to changes in lifestyle.


Goodmans owned the original tooling for a 50 year old classic radio.
Presented with an opportunity to incorporate DAB functionality to bring it technologically
up to date was one part of this development story.

They also asked WMP to take a fresh look at options for colour, finish and materials.
Our research into contemporary bedroom and kitchen environments led to our proposing
a number of possible collections.

The Oxford radio was recently launched in 4 modern colours, each with a vintage twist.
Other features include a chrome speaker grille and chrome control panel with rotary
controls and a tan leather carry handle.

Looking to build on this success and to develop a pair of premium over-the-ear
headphones, WMP created 3 distinct design directions each linked through a
coordinated visual language.


Our prior experience designing headphones for Ferrari gave us a head start
and allowed us to move quickly to help identify key target attributes, understand users needs
and to pinpoint areas of differentiation.

The key discoveries inspired a number of ideas and features all with the promise of delivering
a premium user experience. These included attention to detail, ways to maximise on-ear
comfort and adjustability along with specifying real materials such as leather and
machined aerospace grade metals.

Applying fresh thinking in the design of forceps used to aid complicated deliveries.
A revolutionary idea, product and software system.


A 21st century adaptation of traditional obstetric forceps. The product is a disposable,
hybrid material medical device that encases specialist force measuring electronics.

Encompassing a number of patented technologies, the product allows for the categorical
measurement of traction and compressive force exhorted upon the fetal head during
instrumental delivery. Safeceps™ is part of a medical system, which displays the acquired
force data on a touch screen monitor through a purpose made software system.
The real-time feedback provides an unprecedented insight into the forces and applied forces
of instrumental delivery. The Safeceps™ presents tangible confidence to
the user of the product and reassurance to the family and mother of the child.

INCLUSIVE READING APP

A simple idea that could help millions of people with severe eye impairments
to read again with ease.

WMP in collaboration with RNIB identified a need to make reading accessible to
people who are unable to read standard content. Rather than re-creating yet another
expensive dedicated e-reading device, we proposed piggy backing on existing
technology to create a system that was accessible on devices that were already
available to people with severe impairments.

The system consists of two elements. Firstly an accessible application that can be
customised to suit specific user needs. These settings are saved in a profile that can
be accessed on any iPad. Secondly, some users need more tactile feedback than a
touch screen can offer. We developed an accessory that enables impaired users to
control and navigate the app in a tactile and linear fashion.

As soon as the accessory is plugged into an i-Pad, the app launches automatically and
is ready to use.

The project team is currently in the process of identifying key content
providers to make this vision a reality and help improve the lives of millions.
